SYS Teacher Training

Satya Yoga Shala 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program

SYS Teacher Training program has been approved by the Yoga Alliance’s™ New 2014 rigorous certification program guidelines. Our Teacher Training program far exceeds the minimum required hours of study as outlined by the Yoga Alliance™ 200 hour teacher training standards. Satya’s teacher training is perfect for those who want to teach yoga and/or deepen their own personal yoga practice.

The lead trainer for the program is, experience registered yoga teacher Maria Yakkey, RYT 500, E-RYT 200, who has more than 5,500 hours of teaching experience and founder of Satya Yoga Shala. Other professionals in the field will lead topics specific to their specialty. These individuals will enhance the learning experience with their knowledge of yoga, anatomy, and yoga philosophy.

SYS TTP program is designed to create thinking yoga teachers, who have gained a good understanding of the mechanics of the body and how that translates into a safe, well rounded hatha yoga practice for all body types. The focus of our program is alignment of the asana, which we feel is necessary in order to keep the student safe, ensuring a lifelong yoga practice. There will be ample time spent practicing what is learned throughout the program.

The course of study will take place over 8 consecutive months, meeting one weekend per month, and one additional Friday evening each month. Students will be expected to; maintain a daily yoga practice, complete all required reading, hand in all written assignments, observe one class per month at SYS, take one public yoga class per week at Satya Yoga Shala, and to be present for all weekend trainings. If a trainee misses all or part of a weekend training, make up hours will be available at an additional cost to the trainee.

Topics Covered during the course of study:
• Techniques Training & Practice: Includes asana, pranayama, meditation, and chanting.
• Teaching Methodology: Includes principles of demonstration, observation, assisting students, teaching styles, qualities of a yoga teacher, the student’s learning process, and the business aspects of yoga including marketing and social media.
